2025 Top Tech Initiatives Hoteliers Should Watch

We are just one month away from HITEC Indianapolis, where thousands of hospitality professionals will join together to discuss the pressing issues and cost-effective ways to improve a hotel’s bottom line. Beyond the topic of tariffs, what is top-of-mind for this year’s show? Let’s take a look at the top tech initiatives unveiled in the 2025 Lodging Technology Study.

Ninety percent of hotel survey respondents indicated that enhancing data security is either very or extremely important. This is no surprise–hotels handle copious amounts of personal guest data including names, addresses, phone numbers, credit card information and even passport details. These properties need to ensure they are effectively managing the cybersecurity risks to protect this data.

Other top technology initiatives identified by the survey included:

  • Increasing employee productivity (81%)
  • Improving physical safety of guests and staff (77%)
  • Enhancing bandwidth and connectivity (67%)
  • Integrating AI powered solutions (49%)

In regards to enhancing bandwidth management and connectivity, hotel network upgrades are pivotal to meeting the growing demands of tech-savvy travelers and operational efficiency, while addressing robust security. Hotels must prioritize high-speed, reliable internet with expanded bandwidth to accommodate increased device usage and the integration of emerging technologies.

It’s also interesting to see how high up physical safety of guests and staff is on the top tech initiatives priority list. We are seeing an increased focus on the convergence of digital and physical safety, access and authentication, ensuring the right access in the right places at the right time. Who can access a guest room or staff entrance? Not just who but what (think thermostats, HVAC, security devices) can access the network? Who can enter a convention/meeting/event space? If a lone staff member falls or there’s an emergency, how is that staff member protected? Can guests call for help? All of these topics are critical for the safety of each hotel property.

As the Hospitality Technology’s 2025 Lodging Technology Study surveyed hotel professionals representing thousands of properties worldwide, including luxury (25%), upscale (37%), midscale (28%), and economy (9%) brands, we know these initiatives are a priority for all types of hotels. It’s a great representation of what we can expect to see moving into the second half of this year.
