Casting for Hospitality: Why Do Your Guests Want It?

What is casting?

Casting refers to the process of playing video, music, or other content on a different screen or display. Unlike traditional hotel entertainment options, such as premium channels or pay-per-view, casting for hospitality enables guests to use their own personal devices to stream their favorite content directly on in-room equipment.

Not to be confused with screen mirroring, casting, specifically designed for hotels, allows guests to multitask and use their devices for other purposes while enjoying their preferred content. This means guests can watch their favorite shows or movies while simultaneously responding to work emails, all from the same device.

Why do your guests want casting?

First, it’s expected. Last year the global number of streaming service subscriptions was over  616 million. As more people “cut the cord” and stream their own content at home, the guest preference to access this same content while traveling has significantly increased.

Second, it’s easy. Whether guests want to catch up on the latest Netflix episode, listen to music, work out, or stream a business training video, they want seamless access to their own content. Casting technology provides immediate access to preferred apps, eliminating the need for tedious log-ins or typing in usernames and passwords letter by letter using a remote control. All it takes is pairing the device with the TV, clicking play and enjoying the content.

Third, it’s secure. Guests can securely stream their preferred media without the necessity of logging into a public device or downloading additional software on their personal devices. This eliminates concerns about accidentally connecting to neighboring rooms (or a neighbor connecting to theirs) and being logged out upon check-out. Furthermore, guests are not required to share passwords with the hotel, enhancing privacy.

And lastly, it gives guests peace of mind. Casting solutions empower guests to use their own devices for a contactless experience. As a parent that travels regularly, it’s reassuring to know my kids can tune in to their favorite show at any time of day or night.
