A Case for Cloud Telephony for Hospitality: Update Hotel Phones for Key Benefits

Though landlines in homes are virtually extinct, the hotel phone still serves an important purpose in the guest room. Whether it’s compliance with emergency standards or creating a better guest experience, the in-room phone still serves an important purpose, and the latest in cloud telephony for hospitality offers a myriad of benefits while meeting necessary requirements.

What Is Cloud Telephony?

Cloud Telephony is a virtual PBX (Private Branch Exchange) system hosted on off-site servers and is completely powered by the internet. The cloud system uses VoIP (Voice Over internet Protocols) to make and receive calls and routes phone calls to the correct destination via SIP (Session Internet Protocols). In other words, instead of having a complicated setup of hardware and phone lines on site, everything your staff and guests need to make and take calls is managed virtually in the cloud.

Benefits of Nomadix Cloud Telephony for Hospitality:

Simple, set-up process & phone configuration

The enterprise-grade platform is highly scalable, and eliminates the need for servers or proprietary equipment on site. For hotels that already have a Nomadix Gateway onsite, our solution connects right to it as a module. Nomadix makes it simple to import room extensions with our bulk-upload tool and template. We also support a wide variety of phones from major manufacturers. Hotels can update their older phone systems to Nomadix easily and cost effectively.

Mobile App

Nomadix also offers a mobile app for staff members to still answer calls and get notified of emergency calls while roaming the property. This is important for hotels with limited staff so calls won’t be missed when a staff member is managing other aspects of the hotel.

Meets all emergency standards in the U.S. and Canada

In order to comply with important laws and safety regulations (i.e., Kari’s Law in the U.S. and Telecom Decision CRTC 2007-44 in Canada), hotels need to give guests reliable emergency calling options with high sound quality and location information. Our solution goes even further with the capacity to give not just the general address of the hotel but the exact room number the call is coming from, saving critical time for first responders. If there’s an emergency, guests can call 911, for example, and the front desk and emergency services will know where to respond instantly.

Administrative Capabilities:

Our robust and secure platform offers over 100+ features, including Wake-up calls and a PMS integration. If a guest calls the front desk, they know which room and guest is calling.

NEW: We now offer Housekeeping Events functionality as an optional add-on module. This new feature enables a staff member who is cleaning the room to pick up the phone and dial predefined codes that will then mark the room as “clean” in the PMS. The front desk will be updated in real time that the room is ready to be assigned to a new guest. Additionally, if they notice a broken sink or other issue with the room, they can type in a different code to pull the room out of service until it is fixed.

Reporting and Data:

Many hotels want to see usage patterns of their telephony service, and Nomadix offers analytics to see total calls, calls per hour and active calls.
