Rethinking Tourism: Celebrating Travel on World Tourism Day

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go? What does it look like? Has it changed?

At a broader level, what are travelers looking for when deciding to pack their bags? What will make the experience better? What stops them from traveling? What makes this year different from years’ past?

World Tourism Day on September 27th will focus on “Rethinking Tourism.” We created a snapshot to celebrate this day by compiling some of the biggest trends in tourism. According to the UN, 2022 levels doubled from those in 2021, and predictions are optimistic with the next two decades rising to 7.8 billion passenger journeys per year, says The International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Guest expectations have changed. New challenges continue to hit the industry, but technology initiatives are still in the works to rethink those experiences – from safety to fun and everything in between. Whether staying at big brands or boutique hotels – or even an old college roommate’s couch, there’s a lot to be excited about this World Tourism Day! Tourism is important for income creation and generation of jobs. Celebrate with a trip – even a local getaway if you can, and thank your tireless hospitality and travel workers who are there to serve 24/7 through all the ups and downs.
